Lockdown Browser Admin Guide

Use these tips and tools for managing your on campus or student device lockdown browser experiences.

What is Respondus LockDown Browser?

It is a custom browser that locks down the testing environment and prevents printing, copying, going to another URL, or accessing other applications during an assessment.

What does Respondus LockDown Browser do?

Once the assessment has started, learners are locked into the assessment. They’re unable to print, copy, go to other web addresses, or access other applications on the computer. Web searches, instant messaging, minimizing the browser, and hundreds of other functions are also prevented. Once the assessment is completed, learners are permitted to exit the browser and their computer will return to its normal state.

Is the Respondus LockDown Browser required?

Yes, each device must have the browser downloaded and installed. Territorium recommends the Institution provide an on-campus lab for testing as a backup if students are testing on their own devices in case of technical issues with the LockDown Browser.

Where is the Respondus LockDown Browser download located?

Learners will be able to select the appropriate version to download as part of launching the assessment.  The time to download and install the browser should be considered when setting up test times.

Is there a recommended environment for test-taking?

The recommended testing environment can be found on the Territorium Success Center.
